As part of its reorganization toward channels-based content, Excite laid off 15 of its 30 editorial staff this week. The company's previous strategy, focusing on original product-based programming, shifted last month to a more topic-based editorial strategy. "As a result of our strategic reorganization, we were able to leverage our content with fewer people," said an Excite spokeswoman. Excite now breaks its site into 14 content channels including news, sports, business and entertainment. Layoffs are not expected to hit any other department at the company.
