Excite@Home parts with Enliven

Published on .

Excite@Home has divested its ownership in rich-media company Enliven, which will operate as an independent company backed by Sage Hill Partners. Enliven will be based in Waltham, Mass., where it was headquartered before @Home Networks purchased the company in December 1998 for $89 million. Originally called Narrative Communications Corp., the company's name was later changed to Enliven to reflect its leading rich-media software product. Excite@Home will keep a minority interest in the company and serve on its board of directors. Enliven said it planned to keep current management in place, with the company's general manager, Frank Kashner, staying on in the role of president. In January, Excite laid off 250 staffers and announced it would be streamlining its operations to focus on its broadband Internet access business. Enliven was mentioned as one of the units affected in the streamlining.
