Excite joins forces with Preview Travel

In a major deal announced Wednesday, search engine Excite formed a partnership with Preview Travel, in which the online travel site will pay Excite $15 million over five years to be its exclusive travel service. Excite and Preview will provide joint content and share revenue from advertising and transactions.

While both companies declined to disclose the exact terms of the deal, Preview President-CEO Ken Orton stressed he didn't foresee duplicating a deal this strategic in nature. Preview Travel also maintains a presence on America Online.

The joint service -- which will be accessible through Excite's Travel Channel, WebCrawler, and Preview Travel -- will draw content from Disney's Family.com, HarperCollins' Access Press, Web Flyer magazine, GeoSystems' MapQuest and the Weather Channel.
