Published on .

Excite and The McKinley Group, creator of the Magellan Online Guide, Wednesay signed a definitive agreement for Excite to acquire McKinley; the deal was first announced in June. Separately, Excite hired Betsy Richter, formerly managing editor at News Corp./MCI's I-Guide, and a top editor at the Village Voice, to manage the integration of the two teams. Excite CEO George Bell said he expects there to be some "job consolidation" among the marketing and advertising units, to provide for economies of scale across the company. Specifics on future layoffs are undisclosed.
