Excite switches channels

Excite, as expected, unveiled on Monday its 14 initial channels including arts & entertainment, sports, business & investing, and computers & Internet, careers & education, games, health & science, lifestyle, My Channel (users' own personalized channel), news, people & chat, politics & government, shopping and travel. After choosing a channel, consumers can then dig deeper into the channel and find info on that category in news, reviews, chat or search capabilities. Excite later this year plans to build out each channel as an independent unit, ultimately managed by its own producer, similar to the broadcast network model. Excite has also begun selling advertising tied to its channel model.
