(June 4, 2001) -- Mitch Fox, president and CEO of Advance Publications' new Golf Digest Cos., brought over his former top lieutenant, Steven Binder, to helm his new unit's flagship title.

Mr. Binder will be senior vice president and publisher of Golf Digest. Previously, Mr. Binder, 38, had been vice president of corporate sales at Conde Nast Publications when Mr. Fox was executive vice president of corporate sales. After Mr. Fox was named president and CEO of the Golf Digest properties, Mr. Binder was promoted to senior vice president.

Mr. Binder replaces Tom Brown, who was the magazine's publisher when Advance acquired it from The New York Times Co. in February; he is leaving the company.

Mr. Fox also promoted Keith Levitt to executive vice president and chief operating officer from senior vice president, and Robert Maxon, formerly senior vice president and group publisher, to executive vice president. -- Jon Fine
