FCB wins global account for Schneider Electric

PARIS--International electricity giant Schneider Electric has chosen FCB, Paris, a unit of True North Communications, to manage global advertising for its electrical distribution, industrial control and automation products.

Schneider, which markets electrical equipment worldwide under brands including Federal Pioneer, Merlin Gerin, Modicon, Square D and Telemecanique, appointed FCB following a four-way pitch including BDDP Corporate, DDB & Co.and McCann-Erickson Worldwide. No budget details were available.

With 1999 sales of more than $8.3 billion, Schneider Electric is the worldleader in electrical distribution, industrial control and automation products, systems and services, and the only electrical manufacturer dedicated solely to the distribution and control of electricity. Its products and technologies are installed in utilities and industrial, commercial and residential facilities in 130 countries worldwide, with principal markets being Europe and North America.

The first elements of the new FCB, Paris, campaign are expected to roll out in March, to accompany publication of Schneider's final financial results for 1999.

The incumbent was Havas Advertising-owned Euro RSCG BETC, Paris, marking the second time in less than two months that FCB, Paris, takes an account from Euro RSCG BETC.

FCB recently was appointed to handle French advertising for fruit juice brand Oasis, owned by Schweppes France, an account previously managed by Euro RSCG BETC.
