Federal Communications Commission member Rachelle Chong formally requested that Chairman Reed Hundt drop his proposal to launch a formal inquiry on liquor advertising from the agency's June 19 agenda. The chairman usually honors requests to put off agency votes. But as of publishing time, an aide told Advertising Age
sister publication Electronic Media
that Mr. Hundt had yet to discuss the issue with Ms. Chong and had not decided whether to delete the item or not. Mr. Hundt lacks the votes he needs to launch the controversial inquiry because Ms. Chong and Commissioner Jim Quello oppose it. But the chairman has been hoping to hold a showdown vote.
