Federated, AOL strike new deal

Published on .

Federated Department Stores, parent of Macy's and Bloomingdale's, and America Online significantly expanded their e-commerce relationship, first created in October 1998. The pact gives Federated's e-commerce brands wider placement across several categories of the Shop@AOL online shopping destinations. Under the new multimillion-dollar agreement, Macy's and Bloomingdale's will have anchor tenancies in several Shop@AOL categories including department stores, home furnishings & decor, gourmet gifts and entertaining. They will also have placement on the AOL "welcome" screen and have "gold tenancy" in a number of Shop@ destinations. Separately, AOL said it will incorporate its AOL Instant Messenger service into Sprint PCS Internet wireless service. AOL already has several mobile services available on the Sprint PCS Wireless Web network.
