Finland to launch 24-hour Internet TV channel

Published on .

Finland's sole nationwide commercial TV station MTV3 and state telecom operator Tele Finland have linked for a landmark project--the launch of Europe's first 24-hour Internet TV channel.

Most of the programming on MTV3 Internet TV will run as simultaneous broadcasts with the station's land-based TV channel. However, a number of special programs will be produced for the new Internet station. The MTV3 Internet TV channel will have direct ITN news broadcasts, nine times per day over a four week trial period. Tele Finland is delivering the technology to support MTV3 Internet TV.

Separate copyright and royalty agreements have been signed with program producers, broadcasters and artists. In order to access the MTV3 Internet TV channel, viewers will require a multi-media computer equipped with a sound card and a software program which can be down-loaded from Tele Finland's media-server.
