FLEET PURCHASE BRINGS $100 MIL AGENCY REVIEW

Fleet Financial Group is reviewing its $100 million direct marketing account as a result of its buyout of Advanta Corp.'s $11 billion credit card business. Consultancy Pile & Co., Boston, is conducting the review. Devon Direct, Berwyn, Pa., Advanta's direct marketing agency, is participating, as are Arnold Communications, Boston, and Barry Blau & Partners, Wilton, Conn. (the two shops, owned by Snyder Communications, will pitch together); Fleet incumbent Clarion Marketing & Communications, Greenwich, Conn.; and five others -- Bozell Direct, New York; Euro RSCG's Cohn & Wells, San Francisco; Gillespie, Princeton, N.J.; OgilvyOne Worldwide, New York; and Robertson Marketing Group, Salem, Va. (which does project work for Fleet). Arnold handles Fleet's general advertising.

Robert "Kam" Kamerschen, 62, will step aside as CEO of Advo, Windsor, Conn., next January. He will remain chairman. Gary Mulloy, 53 will succeed Mr. Kamerschen as CEO, rising from his current post of president-chief operating officer.

Cahners Business Information, which publishes 129 business magazines and is part of the Reed Elsevier Group, has acquired directory and database company A.F. Lewis & Co.

ModaCAD, a software development company, has formed an alliance with Cendant Software Corp., a subsidiary of direct marketing giant Cendant Corp., to publish three-dimensional software to deliver the fashion shopping experience online.
