Flooz.com, an online gift currency company, has secured a $27 million strategic round of financing from NBC, NextCard, Mobius Management Systems and Hikari Tsushin, a Tokyo based information and telecommunications services distributor. Initial investors Oak Investment Partners, Brentwood Venture Capital, Maveron Equity Partners, Venture Strategy Partners and Silicon Alley Venture Partners also participated. The funding will be used to expand Flooz.com's sales and marketing efforts and product development to extend Flooz's use as a system for online payment. NBC also entered into a strategic alliance with Flooz.com that includes cash and on-air promotion. NBC, which began airing Flooz.com TV spots featuring spokeswoman Whoopi Goldberg in December, will continue to run on-air promotions for Flooz.com across both the NBC Television Network and on NBC's owned and operated stations.
