Ford Motor Co., Dearborn, Mich., will be sole sponsor of the May 18 hourlong series finale of CBS' "Murphy Brown." Ford gets 7.5 minutes of ad time for its products and will have an additional minute for commercials encouraging support for the Race for the Cure breast cancer research fund-raising effort. Ford will also tout its sponsorship of the show in a trio of 10-second billboard ads. Negotiations for the buy were first reported in December. In the final episode, Murphy (Candice Bergen) undergoes surgery after learning another lump is found in her breast. J. Walter Thompson USA, Detroit, handles.
