Ford Motor Co.
reported third-quarter profits of $357 million, down 68.1% from the same period in 1994. The automaker blamed high start-up costs for new products, including the Ford Taurus and F-150 pickup truck plus the Mercury Sable in North America and the Ford Fiesta and Galaxy in Europe. Worldwide sales and revenues for the quarter were $31.4 billion, a 2.6% increase from the year before. Through three quarters, Ford's 1995 earnings of $3.5 billion were off 5.4%, on worldwide sales and revenues of $102.6 billion, up 8.2% from 1994.
