Fox will back rating system

Rupert Murdoch, chairman-CEO of News Corp., said Thursday that Fox Broadcasting will implement a ratings system for its network TV shows. The system will be similar to the ratings used by the Motion Picture Association of America to rate movies: G, PG-13, etc. "Our goal is to help parents by providing them with information while continuing to respect the creative freedom of our producers," he said. "We are prepared to act unilaterally if necessary."

Reportedly, Fox has met with ABC, CBS and NBC to work out the particulars of a ratings system all four would use. The system will work with the V-chip recently mandated by Congress for TV sets so parents can block out objectionable programming.
