Fox names Rittenberg

Paul Rittenberg will head up the ad sales effort for Fox's new 24-hour all-news channel, said Roger Ailes, chairman-CEO of Fox News. Mr. Rittenberg, a veteran of ABC and Fox Broadcasting, is currently VP-ad sales for NBC. "He did a helluva job for me a CNBC," said Mr. Ailes, who until recently ran that cable network.

Separately, Rupert Murdoch, chairman-CEO of Fox News parent News Corp., denied a published report that Fox was talking to CBS about a partnership for the news channel. However, he did confirm reports that he is negotiating with Primestar Partners to merge the yet-to-be-launched direct broadcast satellite service of News Corp. and MCI with Primestar. Primestar, a consortium of cable operators led by Telecommunications Inc., owns a just-constructed high-powered DBS satellite. If Mr. Murdoch can close the deal, he would jump-start his venture with about 1 million subscribers. Mr. Murdoch made his remarks Tuesday at the annual Schroder Werthweim/Variety media conference in New York.
