Fox's Mad TV scores big

The Oct. 14 premiere telecast of Fox's "Mad TV" delivered a 5.6 rating, the highest ever for Fox on a Saturday night. The one-hour show, airing 11 p.m. to midnight (ET), lost out to NBC veteran "Saturday Night Live" in head-to-head competition from 11:30 p.m. to midnight, however, scoring a 5.1 for that period compared with "SNL's" 6.2. The "SNL" telecast was a highlights show featuring old clips.
