Frito sues P&G

Published on .

PepsiCo's Frito-Lay unit said Monday it filed a lawsuit in U.S. district court in Sherman, Texas, against Procter & Gamble, alleging P&G's recent ads for Pringles are misleading. The campaign from Wells Rich Greene BDDP, New York, compares Pringles Right Crisps to Frito's Baked Lays. Frito alleges the ads "present a misleading and deceptive `one-third less fat' claim when Pringles Right Crisps have more than four times as much fat per one-ounce serving as Baked Lays." Frito also is challenging Pringle's ads comparing its chips to "this bag's greasy mess," showing bags resembling Lay's and Ruffles potato chips. Frito is seeking an injunction as well as funds to produce corrective advertising clarifying the "misinformation."
