FTC files charges against online companies

Published on .

In a large-scale crackdown on deceptive marketing online, the Federal Trade Commission on Thursday said it has negotiated settlements with eight companies charged with making false or unsubstantiated ad claims on the Internet. A ninth case is being pursued in federal district court.

The companies charged were engaged in a variety of businesses, including credit repair, work-at-home, grant assistance and computer equipment supply.

In a statement, the FTC said it would rigorously monitor the Internet for cases of deceptive marketing.
