FTC makes inquiry at Yahoo! over data privacy

Published on .

Yahoo! said it has been contacted by the Federal Trade Commission and has been asked to explain certain parts of the company's data collection practices. A Yahoo! spokeswoman said the company understands the inquiry was prompted by the California Healthcare Foundation's Report, dated January 2000, on the health Web sites of 21 companies. She said Yahoo! is voluntarily providing information to the FTC, adding it takes privacy "very seriously. We are committed to it, and we are proud of our record.''
