FTC sends warnings to potential ad spammers

Published on .

The Federal Trade Commission and the Coupon Information Center announced Wednesday that they have identified 31 potentially fraudulent Internet ads with coupon offers, and sent warnings to the advertisers. Programs falling under scrutiny tend to be alleged business opportunities in which consumers earn money by selling coupon booklets or a work-at-home coupon clipping scheme.

The FTC is investigating whether these promotions violate laws by exaggerating earnings claims.
