FTC shoe settlement partial definition for 'Made in U.S.'

Settling part of a dispute that led to Federal Trade Commission hearings on legal use of the term "Made in America," New Balance Athletic Shoes and Hyde Athletic Industries agreed not to advertise shoes totally produced abroad as made in the U.S. The limited settlement, approved on a 4-to-1 vote by the FTC, leaves unresolved the larger issue of what constitutes a "Made in the USA" designation.
