CHICAGO-William K. Furlong, 37, has been promoted to the new post of associate publisher of Advertising Age's Business Marketing.

He had been advertising director at the monthly publication.

In making the announcement, Edward R. Erhardt, VP-publisher of Ad Age, said: "Under Bill's leadership, along with Jan Jaben's excellent effort on the editorial side, Business Marketing's role as an information provider to the business-to-business marketing community has been solidified and enhanced. In addition, Bill has integrated Business Marketing in the Ad Age Group sales and marketing organization in a way that has resulted in increased sales and better efficiencies for all parts of the group."

Mr. Furlong joined Crain Communications Inc., publisher of Business Marketing and Ad Age, in 1989. His previous publishing experience includes stints as an associate publisher at Maclean Hunter Publishing Co. and as national sales representative-travel division at the Chicago Sun-Times.

Mr. Furlong also has worked on the agency side. He was an account supervisor at Pierson & Flynn, as well as an account exec at Zwiren & Partners.
