Equal Benefits Advocates, San Francisco, a gay and lesbian advocacy group, next week breaks a cable TV campaign in San Francisco and Los Angeles urging travelers to use American Airlines over United Airlines. United declined to abide by a San Francisco city ordinance requiring companies to pay healthcare and other benefits afforded to the spouses of married heterosexual employees to the partners of homosexual employees. In the spots, which the group hopes to air in major markets nationally, United is shown as being on the same side in the legal dispute with Pat Robertson's American Center for Law & Justice. EBA plans to spend less than $1 million on the commercial. United officials were unavailable for comment.
