GE REPORTS INCREASED REVENUE, THOUGH NBC PROFITS DROP 12%

Published on .

(April 12, 2001) -- General Electric Co., parent of the NBC network, reported 2% revenue growth to $30.5 billion from $30 billion in 2000 and a 16% increase in earnings to $3.02 billion from $2.59 billion in 2000.

Results were helped by growth in businesses such as power generation and aircraft engines, while its TV network, appliance and financial services units suffered due to the slowing economy. NBC's revenues for the quarter dropped 3% to $1.35 billion from $1.39 billion in 2000, and profits dropped 12% to $346 million from $394 in 2000. -- Mercedes Cardona
