GeoCities rolls out e-commerce to its members

Online community GeoCities on March 18 kicked off GeoShops, a service to enable small and midsize businesses to set up virtual stores on GeoCities. Internet Commerce Services Corp., which uses software by Open Market, is partnering with GeoCities on the GeoShops service. GeoShops Merchants will receive additional server space, an address for their store and unlimited e-mail aliases, and the ability to add real-time credit card processing capabilities, among other services. GeoCities predicts more than 100,000 marketers will take advantage of its service in the first year, generating $10 million in revenue.
