Georgia-Pacific Corp., Atlanta, on Nov. 27 completed its acquisition of Fort James Corp., Deerfield, Ill., in a deal that creates the No. 1 marketer of branded toilet tissue and napkins and the No. 2 marketer of branded paper towels in the U.S. Leadership of the branded tissue-towel business will fall with Georgia-Pacific executives, the company announced, with Lee M. Thomas, former Georgia-Pacific exec VP-packaged products, becoming president-consumer products in the combined business. Michael C. Burandt, Georgia-Pacific senior VP-packaged products, becomes president-North American consumer products. Former Fort James executive William Schultz remains president-Dixie operations. The deal combines Georgia-Pacific's Angel Soft and Sparkle brands with Fort James' Quilted Northern and Brawny brands.
