GERBER WIDENS WORLD VIEW WITH SANDOZ

Gerber is feeding its desire to expand internationally, agreeing to a $3.7 billion purchase offer from Swiss pharmaceutical company Sandoz.

Overseas sales for the No. 1 U.S. baby food marketer last year hit $216.1 million. But there's a reluctance by some mothers to try jar baby food. The Sandoz acquisition will provide the resources to accelerate expansion into other markets where the bias against jar baby food isn't as prevalent.
