German gov't to fight EU tobacco ad ban

Published on .

The German government said it will challenge the European Union's new ban on tobacco advertising and sponsorship in the European Court of Justice. The Economics Ministry said the ban infringes free expression and damages the advertising industry, and that its effect on brands could be an infringement on property rights. The European Court can nullify the ban.
