German oil company holds review

Published on .

Essen -- Energy and oil company RWE here is reviewing its advertising business held by Omnicom Group's BBDO Worldwide, Duesseldorf, for less than a year. Agencies pitching include: Baader Hermes Y&R from WPP Group, Omnicom's DDB Worldwide-owned Heye & Partners and Springer & Jacoby, all Hamburg-based. BBDO's recent campaign for RWE starring Christoph Daum was pulled after the coach of soccer team Bayer Leverkusen admitted on TV that he had "occasionally" taken cocaine. He claimed he needed the drug due to pain from his arthritic hip. Club management at Bayer Leverkusen, which is sponsored by aspirin-inventor Bayer, dropped the coach after he tested positive on a drugs test.
