The European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA) has named Germany the host nation of the Euro Effie advertising effectiveness awards this year. France was the host nation in 2000.

Germany's Association of Advertising Agencies (GWA) will host the gala evening in Berlin on Oct. 12. Agencies can only apply for a Euro Effie (www.info@gwa.de) if campaigns have run in at least three European countries. All advertising material must be presented in English.

Chairing the event will be Norbert Lindhof, executive director of Scholz & Friends, Hamburg. Along with a six-member committee, Mr. Lindhof must decide by March the categories competing this year and appoint a jury.

Following the merger of the EACA and the Euro Effies in 1999, a total of 16 countries now participate in the competition, including: Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, the U.K., Greece, the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Poland, Hungary, Norway and Sweden.

Last year, 59 agencies entered the competition, with 31 campaigns from 10 countries being short-listed.
