New global pet food unit at Heinz

H.J. Heinz Co. said it is creating a worldwide Specialty Pet Food division and named former Star-Kist Seafood VP-Sales & Marketing John Heil, 45, to be its president. Mr. Heil most recently was VP-specialty products for Heinz Pet Products. The new unit will be co-headquartered with Heinz Pet Products in Newport, Ky. Mr. Heil is charged with launching Heinz's specialty pet brands, including Nature's Recipe, Vet's Choice and Martin Pet Foods, in Europe, South America, Asia, Australia and South Africa.

Separately, Heinz named Brian Falck, 47, former Heinz USA VP-marketing, to be president, Heinz Canada, effective March 2. Mr. Falck, most recently area director, central and eastern Europe, succeeds Paul Sneddon, who resigned. Peter Shea, 46, will assume Mr. Falck's responsibilities for operations in central and eastern Europe. Mr. Shea was most recently president-CEO of SMG, Cincinnati, and was one of a team that led a 1994 management buyout of the company, which was a former operating division of Chiquita Brands International.
