Globetrotters create branding unit

Published on .

The Harlem Globetrotters created a licensing and merchandising unit to oversee production, marketing, sale and distribution of the team's brand merchandise. The unit is developing products that will be sold in stores and at arenas during their "What sports should be" tour in 1998. The team expects product sales to be spurred by two entertainment projects in the works that the Globetrotters are involved in: "Showtime," a film from Columbia Pictures, and "Hoopz," a Broadway musical from Walt Disney Productions.
