General Motors Corp. breaks an eight-page insert in four women's books this week, promoting the auction of one-of-a-kind GM vehicles redone by five fashion designers.

The designers and their vehicles are: Mark Eisen, Camaro Z28; Nicole Miller, Cadillac STS; Todd Oldham, Oldsmobile Bravada; Anna Sui, GMC Yukon; and Richard Tyler, Buick Riviera.

The autos will be sold in a silent auction via Neiman Marcus' December catalog. All proceeds go to breast cancer research via the joint venture between GM and the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

The advertising is from Harris Marketing, Ann Arbor, Mich.

GM started to promote the project on its Web site (http://www.gm.com) in late October.
