General Motors Corp. has signed a pair of deals that will involve the company with the Olympics through 2008. A deal with the U.S. Olympic Committee makes GM the official domestic car and truck of the U.S. Olympic team through the 2008 games, and a deal with NBC gives GM domestic category exclusivity and media buys for the network's coverage of the 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 Olympic Games. While officials at GM, NBC and the USOC declined to reveal the deal's cost, the package has been reported to be worth $700 million, with GM likely to spend another $300 million to leverage its involvement with the Olympics. NBC Sports President Dick Ebersol said the network and the USOC are likely to sign three or four similar agreements with other companies by yearend.
