DETROIT ( -- General Motors Corp. has named Megan Stooke marketing director of its Hummer brand. The appointment is effective March 1.
Megan Stooke, who has been director of advertising and sales promotion for Chevrolet, has been named marketing director for Hummer.

Ms. Stooke, who joined GM in 1995, has been director-advertising and sales promotion at Chevrolet since May. She succeeds Liz Vanzura, who shifted to marketing director of Cadillac earlier this year.

Key vehicle launches
While at Chevrolet, Ms. Stooke oversaw day-to-day activities on key launches, including the redone Tahoe sport utility vehicle and the HHR tall wagon. The HHR tall wagon marked GM’s brand’s largest digital launch, with online accounting for 20% of the marketing budget, including integrating the model into AOL’s online reality show “The Biz.”

The Tahoe debuted on New Year’s Eve with a major on-site presence at Times Square and via national ads on “NBC’s New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly,” of which Chevrolet was the presenting name sponsor.

Under Ms. Vanzura, Hummer advertising has been among the most admired in the industry. Independent Modernista, Boston, handles.

Hummer sales have risen dramatically in the past year since the arrival of the smaller, less-expensive H3 sport utility. GM said Hummer sold 56,727 vehicles in the U.S. last year, up 93% vs. 2004.
