GM numbers down

Published on .

General Motors Corp. reported lower first-quarter net income of $1 billion, down from $2.1 billion a year ago. In North America, GM and its Delphi Automotive Systems reported a net loss of $195 million in the first quarter, versus net income of $1 billion in the first quarter of 1995. GM blamed the poor results on the 17-day strike at two Delphi components' plants in Dayton, Ohio, which temporarily shuttered 26 of GM's 29 North American plants.
