Mary Carpenter, 35, was named director of operations, and Jana O'Brien, 43, was named executive director of strategic research and insights at GM Planworks, Detroit, the Starcom MediaVest
Group unit created to handle media planning for General Motors Corp. Ms. Carpenter was previously VP-media director at the Starcom unit of Starcom MediaVest Group, working for GM's Oldsmobile, Procter & Gamble Co., Hallmark Cards and H.J. Heinz Co. She will be responsible for all operational functions of GM Planworks. Ms. O'Brien was exec VP-executive planning director at Leo Burnett
USA in Chicago, working for clients such as Coca-Cola Co., Pillsbury Co. and Maytag Corp. and as director of the research services group. In her newly created position, Ms. O'Brien is expected to bring strategic planning insights to media planning, and will conduct consumer behavior research. Both report to GM Planworks President Dennis Donlin. GM Planworks will handle media planning across all GM brands except Saturn and Saab.
