Good week for cable ratings

For the week of Sept. 4 to Sept. 10, the gross Nielsen rating for basic cable networks was a 20.2, the highest ever for the viewing source and enough to give the Big 3 networks' 25.7 combined rating a run for the money. The live Sept. 7 prime-time telecast of "The 1995 MTV Video Music Awards" had a 6.4 rating, reaching about 6.3 million viewers. That's a 5% rating gain from 1994. Fox's telecast of "The 47th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards" delivered a 12.4 rating and a 40 share of the prime-time TV audience Sept. 10.
