Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and client Nike were the big winners in the second annual APG-U.S. Account Planning awards.

The San Francisco agency and the sneaker manufacturer took the first- and third-place prizes at Account Planning Group-U.S., a national organization of agency account planners; its planning conference last week was sponsored jointly with the American Association of Advertising Agencies.

NEWMAN HONORED

The conference also honored Jane Newman, who stepped down in April as director of strategic planning at Merkley Newman Harty, New York. Ms. Newman, who remains with Merkley concentrating on special strategic projects, was awarded APG's first Account Planning Lifetime Achievement Award.

NIKE GOLD

Goodby took the Gold in the APG awards for its "A Championship Season" campaign for Nike women's basketball business.

Silver went to TBWA Chiat/Day, Venice, Calif., for its campaign "The Front" for cable TV's Weather Channel.

Goodby tied for a Bronze with Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York -- Goodby for its "What If" campaign for Nike skateboarding (the recent winner of the Cannes International Advertising Festival Gold Lion) and Kirshenbaum for its "Uncompromise" print campaign for Rockport shoes.

The winners were selected from among 89 case histories submitted by 37 U.S. agencies based on the contributions made by account planning.
