GOP ads readied

The Republican National Committee Thursday announced a $20 million three-month "issue-advocacy" campaign backing presumptive presidential candidate Sen. Bob Dole. The committee had been expected to step in because Sen. Dole, soon to retire from the Senate, is near his federal spending limit well before the party's August convention. The first spot, from Greg Stevens & Co., Arlington, Va., focuses on the proposed balanced budget amendment and President Clinton's "flip flops" on issues.
