Grand Prix ad bows

Published on .

General Motors' Pontiac division breaks the first fall Grand Prix spot Thursday night on NBC's "The Single Guy." It touts the 1997 model's new wide-track styling, comparing it to that of a veteran Hawaiian pipeline surfer who switched to a wider board. It carries the tag "wider is better." Two more executions from D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles will follow in about month. The '97 Grand Prix was first seen in a solo spot dubbed "wide jump" that broke during the Summer Olympics, when the cars were trickling into dealerships. That ad has been dropped.
