GROUP READIES SPOT AGAINST PATIENTS BILL OF RIGHTS MEASURE

(June 15, 2001) -- The American Association of Health Plans launched a new campaign warning of the dangers of a patients bill of rights measure that the U.S. Senate readied to debate today.

A spot from Columbus Public Affairs, Arlington, Va., that will run in Washington June 17 and move to national cable next week suggests that the bill will lead to expensive lawsuits and higher health-care costs.

The association said exact spending will depend on how long the Senate takes to consider the legislation, but could reach $3 million to $5 million if the debate is prolonged. -- Ira Teinowitz
