GSD&M captures German ads for Wal-Mart

Published on .

GSD&M, Austin, Texas, will help Wal-Mart Stores in its German expansion by handling advertising for the retailing giant. Wal-Mart entered the country last spring and purchased the Wertkauf chain, and in December, acquired the Interspar chain. There is some speculation GSD&M, which is part of Omnicom Group, will open a German office; however, a GSD&M spokesman said the agency is currently handling the business from the U.S. and using sister Omnicom shop TBWA/Chiat/Day in Germany when needed. Wal-Mart now has 95 stores and sales of about $3.6 billion in Germany.
