GTE mainStreet bows in Clearwater

GTE mainStreet on Thursday begins slowly rolling out its interactive TV offerings to residents in Clearwater, Fla. Created by GTEamericast, the interactive service features nine worlds of interactive entertainment and information including personal finance, home shopping, local and national news, a reference library and interactive entertainment like play-along talk and game shows and children's solve-them-yourself mysteries. The service is being offered for a limited time at no additional charge to GTEamericast customers who subscribe to a premium cable service such as HBO or Showtime. Americast is a cable consortium formed by Ameritech, SBC Communications, BellSouth, GTE and Disney.
