FORMER HALO CEO RETURNS TO HELM ITS MARKETING SHOP

Published on .

Less than a month after HALO Industries announced it was replacing its former CEO, John Kelley, Mr. Kelley is back at the helm of HALO's marketing services shop, Upshot Marketing Group.

Mr. Kelley co-founded the Chicago-based Upshot in 1994, four years before the agency was acquired by HALO. Mr. Kelley's return to Upshot as CEO comes amid HALO's plan to sell off one or more of its marketing services shops -- which included LAGA and Market USA -- with Upshot being the largest and most coveted. Last month, HALO appointed Marc Simon to succeed Mr. Kelley as CEO on the heels of a 2000 marked by a net loss of $50 million on $715 million in revenue.

HALO, based in Niles, Ill., operates business-to-business promotional products division HALO Branded Solutions as well as Upshot. Mr. Simon is charged with restoring the company's profitability, allowing Mr. Kelley to focus his efforts in the marketing services area.
