Harley-Davidson rides the quintessential "enthusiast" ad campaign.
Advertising from Carmichael Lynch, which helped rescue the motorcycle company from near bankruptcy, has been running for 14 years and shares a deep insight into the psyche of the Harley rider. Each year, ads mostly focus on escapism and the "places" aficionados go, physically and mentally, when they climb onto their Harleys.
The ad celebrating Harley's 90th anniversary recalls the dedication of founders Bill Harley and Arthur, Walter and William A. Davidson.
"Fine, we'll just eat without you then" shows a tinkering shed re-created from photographs of the original, which was located near Harley 's current plant.
The machine created in that shed, says the ad, "was the start of a commitment, a powerful relationship between rider and motorcycle that continues to this day in garages across America."
The same could be said of the advertising.
