NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Paris-based advertising holding company Havas today said it has created a new unit, Havas Media, intended to oversee its media operating units.

The unit's CEO, Alfonso Rodes Vila, will run Havas Media in conjunction with an executive committee.

Havas Media will oversee the operations of global media network MPG; Arena, a unit involved with specialty communications; online and digital network MediaContacts; sports-marketing firm Havas Sports; and B6 Integrated Entertainment, the holding company's branded-entertainment entity.

Executive committee
The executive committee's members include MPG Chief Financial Officer Jordi Ustrell, who will take on the additional title of CFO, Havas Media; MediaContacts CEO Don Epperson, who will take on the additional role of chief operating officer, Havas Media; MPG Chief Intelligence Officer Hernan Sanchez, who will also serve as chief intelligence officer, Havas Media; and MPG Chief Media Investment Officer Juan Bascones, who will also serve as chief media investment officer, Havas Media.

The announcement comes less than a week after rival Interpublic Group of Cos. said it is dismantling IPG Media, which similarly was created to oversee its media networks Initiative and Universal McCann and specialty media businesses, in favor of aligning them more closely with creative agency networks DraftFCB and McCann Erickson. Like Havas' new unit, Interpublic's media units are overseen by a management committee.

A Havas spokeswoman said the details of how Havas Media will function are still being worked out.
