New head at APL Singapore to lead agency relaunch

Published on .

SINGAPORE -- Michael McLaren, formerly general manager of Ammirati Puris Lintas, Sydney, has been appointed managing director of APL, Singapore and regional director for Asia Pacific on the $200m Compaq computers business recently awarded to the network.

McLaren is taking charge of APL, Singapore at a crucial time. "The agency is about to go through an ambitious relaunch in what is one of the most competitive markets in the world," says Leigh Clapham, chairman APL Australia/regional director. "It is also a major hub for several multinational clients."

Clapham says McLaren's 10 years' experience with APL and involvement with the Johnson & Johnson Asia Pacific co-ordination "makes him ideally suited to run the Singapore office".

In his last position at APL, Sydney, McLaren managed the new business drive that brought in $15m additional business in 12 months. He was also responsible for the operation and development of the 26- strong account management team.

In Singapore, McLaren reports to Clapham, whose remit covers Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
