Heart surgery for Wendy's Dave Thomas

Published on .

R. David Thomas, the 64-year-old founder and pitchman for Wendy's hamburger chain, will undergo coronary bypass surgery this week, the company said. Mr. Thomas, who recently aired his 500th commercial for the chain, was admitted Sunday to an undisclosed hospital after complaining of chest pains. His folksy style in TV ads is widely credited with helping build Wendy's to its current No. 3 status in the burger segment.
